BIOTech Syria: A 4-Day Journey into Bioinformatics and Innovation

How do students move from understanding DNA to creating real-world solutions?
Through BIOtech: Bioinformatics, a collaboration between Kryacademia and Young Inventor, students from Syria experienced exactly that step by step.
Here’s a look at their journey:
🧬 Day 1 — Understanding the Foundations of Life
The program began by building a strong scientific foundation.
Students explored:
- DNA and gene structure
- Proteins and their functions
- The concept of digital biology
Through guided exploration, they learned how scientists use technology to study life at the molecular level.
More than just theory, the session was filled with curiosity and engagement, students actively asked questions and showed strong enthusiasm in understanding how biology connects with technology.
🔍 Day 2 — Exploring Bioinformatics Tools & Data
On the second day, students moved from concepts into real-world applications.
They:
- Explored NCBI and how scientists access genetic data
- Simulated how to compare similarities between organisms
- Examined the protein structure of SARS-CoV-2
- Began brainstorming how AI can support bioinformatics solutions
This session strengthened analytical thinking, as students started to see how biology, data, and technology work together in modern science.
💡 Day 3 — From Science to Real-World Problems
The focus shifted from analysis to application and empathy.
Students reflected on real challenges in their communities, including:
- Limited electricity access
- Frequent power outages
- Harsh winter conditions
Using these as a foundation, they developed 2D solution concepts, exploring how bioinformatics, technology, and AI could contribute to solving these issues.
This stage highlighted a critical mindset:
Innovation is not just about ideas—it is about solving real problems.
Students demonstrated creativity, critical thinking, and social awareness in connecting science to real-life needs.
🚀 Day 4 — Presenting Ideas & Reflecting on Growth
The final day marked the culmination of their journey.
Students presented their projects, showcasing:
- Their understanding of bioinformatics concepts
- Their ability to apply knowledge to real-world challenges
- Creative and thoughtful solution ideas
The session concluded with reflection, celebrating not just the results but the growth, confidence, and collaboration developed throughout the program.

🌏 Beyond the Classroom
Across four days, students didn’t just learn bioinformatics, they experienced:
- How science connects with technology
- How data can be used to understand life
- How ideas can evolve into impactful solutions
This collaboration between Indonesia and Syria highlights the power of international learning experiences in shaping future innovators.

✨ A Journey That Continues
While the BIOtech Syria program has officially concluded, its impact goes far beyond these four days.
Students leave not only with new knowledge, but with a stronger mindset to explore, question, and innovate.
This is just the beginning of their journey in science and technology.
